Support FAQs

What product support is currently available?

Product FAQs

Q: What is Konect?
A: Konect is a serverware software solution that allows you to centrally manage and deploy networked resources to your users. Konect seamlessly integrates and delivers server-hosted applications, networked files, data sources, web resources and services to employee computers in a highly secure environment without a Terminal Server desktop session. The delivery of these services is done through a normal desktop environment, relieving the demands placed on you by traditional Terminal Services desktop delivery.

Q: What are the benefits of Konect?
A: Konect is a highly cost effective software solution for small and mid-size businesses. And with its innovative delivery of networked resources, Konect eliminates the challenges you may have faced with other traditional terminal server applications:

  • No more desktop confusion.
  • Reduced training times and elimination of re-training.
  • Seamless local and remote accessibility.
  • Simplified security administration.
  • Leverages existing infrastructure.

Visit the Solutions section on our website for further information.

Q: Why is Konect the best access serverware software solution available for small and mid-size businesses?
A: Konect enables small and mid-size businesses with the highly cost effective access serverware software solution needed to support an increasingly mobile workforce, to enable the use of remote offices, and to deploy server-hosted applications and resources to users. See Pricing for further information.

Q: What are the advantages of Konect in comparison to desktop-to-desktop solutions such as Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Connection?
A: There are several to consider. Desktop-to-desktop solutions require costly software resources to be installed and maintained on each host PC, utilizing all available licenses for one product. In this desktop-to-desktop environment only one user can be logged on to the host PC at any time. And these solutions do not allow you to limit access to applications and resources based on security.

Konect is deployed on your server. Konect centralizes software deployment from your server delivering applications and resources to only the right people when needed. Konect allows multiple users access to the same networked resources at any give time. And Konect centralizes application resources saving companies, time, resources and licensing application costs.

Q: What are the differences between Konect and Microsoft Terminal Services?
A: One of the main benefits of Konect is that it provides user specific application publishing not available in a traditional Terminal Services solution. In addition,  a second terminal server desktop is not required to deliver user specific applications.

Q: How are Konect and pcAnywhere™ or GoToMyPC® different?
A: pcAnywhere and GoToMyPC are desktop-to-desktop solutions which allow one user to access one host computer from a remote location. In contrast to the limitations of these one-to-one solutions, Konect is a serverware software solution that allows many users to access the same networked resources from a remote location.

Q: Why would I choose Konect if I am currently using Citrix?
A: Konect eliminates many of the challenges you may have faced with other traditional Terminal Services applications:

  • No more desktop confusion - Users work from a normal desktop environment to access local and server-based resources, never having to flip back and forth between local and server desktops.
  • Reduced training times and elimination of re-training - Konect integrates into your users’ normal desktop environment, becoming an accessible resource like any other on their desktop.
  • Simplified deployment, support, and maintenance - Konect is easily deployed on your existing server infrastructure in a matter of minutes and you can have your users accessing network resources shortly thereafter. Because of the user-friendliness of Konect you gain all of the advantages of a Citrix MetaFrame XP implementation with none of the challenges.
  • Cost - Konect is priced for small and mid-size businesses and is therefore a fraction of the cost of a typical Citrix deployment.

Q: How secure is Konect?
A: Konect provides users with secure Internet access to networked resources, applications, and data without the cost or complexity of a VPN (Virtual Private Network). Using industry-standard encryption technology, all Konect traffic between the client and the server is secure.

Q: What types of applications can I access using Konect?
A: Konect gives your users access to all of your traditional or web-based applications. In addition, Konect manages users’ access to data sources, documents, web content and services.

Q: Does Konect run on thin clients?
A: The Konect client has been successfully tested on the XPe thin client OS.

Q: Does Konect require Microsoft Terminal Server Licensing?
A: Yes. To gain access to more than the default administration CALS (Client Access Licenses) you will need to acquire TS (Terminal Server) Licensing.

Q: How does Konect licensing work?
A:  Konect is sold and licensed on a concurrent user (number of users accessing resources simultaneously) basis.

Q: Is ThinPrint .rdp required for the Konect serverware software?
